ABOUT THE SHOW

To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score, augmented with dynamic new songs, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. The preacher’s defiant daughter takes a liking to Ren, prompting her roughneck boyfriend to undermine Ren’s standing, with many locals quick to distrust the new kid. The poignant tale unfolds as a father mourns his lost son while Ren longs for the father who abandoned him. Based on the 1984 film.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

A professional level four-week program under the co-direction of Rubicon favorites, Joseph Fuqua and Seryozha La Porte with choreography by Aliza Barroca (Elle Woods from last summer’s Legally Blonde the Musical.) Students in this course spend seven hours a day, six days a week, vigorously training, rehearsing and performing a musical production. During this period, students gain confidence in character interpretation, story structure, movement, vocal production and stagecraft, building a common and supportive bond with their fellow actors. The five weeks culminate in a series of performances in front of a live audience.
