5 teenagers. 5 diaries. 5 songwriting teams. One unforgettable story.
Witnesses is a deeply moving new musical based on the diaries of five Jewish teenagers whose words and dreams were captured in journals during the Holocaust. Through an intricate weaving of lyrics and text pulled straight from the diaries themselves, these memoirs are a testament to the human spirit during a period in history that must never be forgotten. Five songwriting teams and Tony Award-Winning writer Robert L. Freedman (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) have crafted this theatrical event to bring their words to life and tell a story with stunning contemporary relevance.
Witnesses had a successful World Premiere run at CCAE Theatricals and a sold-out special one-night-only Reunion Concert in association with Jfest. The production won the Craig Noel Award for Outstanding New Musical, and the Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Direction for J. (Jeremy) Scott Lapp, who helmed Rubicon’s acclaimed award-winning production of Bonnie & Clyde.
Come experience this beautiful, poignant and powerful play (in consideration for Rubicon’s 2026-2027 Season).
